The Director of Operations of the Uganda Police, Frank Mwesigwa, has underscored the importance of maintaining public order and ensuring a secure environment for the upcoming 2026 elections.
Addressing trainees at the Police Training School (PTS) in Kabalye, Masindi, Mwesigwa highlighted critical focus areas, including safe voter movement, protection of electoral materials, and neutralization of opportunistic criminal activities.
"We are preparing to reinforce security in this election season across the country," Mwesigwa said.
"I emphasized the need to maintain uninterrupted public order, guarantee safe voter movement, protect electoral materials, neutralize opportunistic criminal activities, and prevent election triggers."
He also stressed discipline, clarity in command intent, and strict adherence to the chain of command. "I emphasized discipline standards, command intent, deployment logic, and strict command-chain adherence," he added.
The briefing is part of the police force’s wider preparations to ensure a secure and peaceful voting process. Trainees are being equipped with skills to handle the complex security challenges associated with elections.
The Uganda Police Force has also been deploying officers nationwide and engaging with community leaders and political parties to promote peaceful coexistence and tolerance during the electoral period.
